New Community Orchard for Tideswell

Congratulations to newly establish group Tidza Orchard who have great plans to establish a community orchard in the village of Tideswell. With permission from the Parish Council, they have two plots, one on Wheston Bank which will be a Heritage Orchard growing traditional favourites and local Derbyshire and Yorkshire trees and a Children’s Orchard at Richard Lane playground with dwarf varieties of eating apples.

The orchard harvests will be for all the community to share and the group is looking for passionate volunteers and subscribers to help raise funds, lend equipment and plant trees.

Most recently the group has had confirmation from the Bennett Trusts that it has ordered their complete wish list of fruit trees and these are due for delivery in November so there is much to do in terms of preparing the sites. If you would like to help or just want to know more about the project please contact the team by email

Already they have a second project on the go which is to create a flower meadow on Wheston Bank. Local experts have already offered their expertise such as the Hay Meadows on the Eastern Moors or the Cornfield Annuals created at Knowsley near Liverpool. It is hoped that beekeeping groups may also want to keep bees there in the future.”
