25.9.20 Update from DDCVS
This week our Zoom Coffee Morning focussed on the question of re-starting your community group. Kim Launert from the Imperial Rooms in Matlock joined us and explained how they were managing room hire at the centre. The discussion was further stimulated by contributions from a number of our participants representing a variety of groups.
One particular issue is around the responsibility of cleaning equipment such as tables, chairs, and touch points like light switches, and this is where the Imperial Rooms is fortunate in that they employ staff who will do this between each booking. For some groups the responsibility of having to arrive earlier to clean everything before using it and then stay late to clean afterwards is an extra burden. As one group said, ‘we need twice as many volunteers now’ and, as we all know, volunteers can be hard to find.
We are happy to discuss any concerns you have about re-starting your activities. Firstly, we would encourage you to speak to your usual venue and read over the new guidelines around hiring the space, as this may influence your decision. Secondly, we suggest you talk to both your committee / regular volunteers and your members / participants. We have put together a couple of surveys that you can download as PDFs from our website and use to consult with both your committee and your members. The link for the Committees is here and the separate survey for members is here – this one focusses on what members would like to see in place, for activities to restart.

And of course, we can’t get away with an update without a mention of Zoom! You might have reached a point where you would like to try hosting your group on Zoom rather than at a venue, or you may want to use it to supplement what you do already, or it might be time for your AGM and you are considering doing it online. Please do contact us, as we can arrange a test Zoom with you and you may benefit from our Digital Connections project which can connect you with a Digital Buddy and signpost you to additional kit for you or members of your group.

We continue to work a mixture of remotely and in the office so the answerphone, post-box and email address are checked regularly. Please ring or email in advance if you need to arrange to come in to see us as the picture can change as regards staff days in the office and we wouldn’t want you to have a wasted journey.
