Data Protection and Community Groups

You may have heard, in the news, about the data breach at the National Lottery Community Fund. You can read about this here: – https://www.tnlcommunityfund.org.uk/news/press-releases/2021-07-30/important-notice-of-a-data-breach

Please note that if you are holding personal data for your community group, perhaps a list of Members, or a list of people and their email addresses for a newsletter, you do need to comply with the UK GDPR.

There is some excellent guidance on the Information Commissioner’s Office website, including a self-assessment toolkit and the National Cyber Security Centre is a very good port of call for advice about online safety and training for your organisation in cyber security.

If you have any questions relating to Data Protection or Cyber Security we would be happy to try and answer them or to signpost you to someone who can. Email enquiries@ddcvs.org.uk or telephone 01629 812154 and speak to Sarah or Neil.

If we have sufficient interest, Data Protection / Cyber Security may well be one of the topics for a Coffee Morning in the Autumn.
