Flourish Rural Derbyshire – tackling loneliness and isolation
Flourish Rural Derbyshire – a new independent Community Interest Company – has been very busy since their inception in March of this year. Flourish aims to help build projects and collaborate with providers of services which tackle isolation and loneliness linked to long term illness and living in a rural place.
In July Flourish were able to transplant the gold award winning RHS Mindfulness garden designed and kindly donated by Rae Wilkinson from RHS Chatsworth to a neglected patch of land at the Eco-Centre, Middleton by Wirksworth. Flourish secured a small grant form the Better Derbyshire Dales Fund to enable the purchase of soil and structural boards.
Very many people were involved in making this happen but special praise must go to a dedicated skilled team from the Derby YMCA and Peter Eley from the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, provided 3 full days of invaluable hard work to clear and prepare the site for planting.
Also, to the army of volunteer gardeners from Wirksworth and Middleton who have taken the garden to heart and now water and look after the space.
Flourish is still in need of further funding to construct seating and pathways and they would welcome any help with this. AND – Volunteers are always very welcome of all ages. This is intended as a place of sanctuary for the community so please visit and enjoy.
