Martin joined the Board of Trustees in 2013 and has been Chair since March 2016.

Martin has worked in retail banking and financial services for almost 40 years, most recently in compliance and risk management.

Martin is a Board Member at the School for Social Entrepreneurs (Yorkshire & North East), and an Independent Member on the Audit & Risk Committee of Aspire Housing and the Finance & Audit Committee of the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.

Bev Shephard, Treasurer

Bev Shephard is an independent business consultant, Finance and HR Director specialising in working with creative businesses,  growing SMEs and not-for-profit organisations. She works with a varied client group embracing start-up charities and large London agencies. She’s a founding Director of Haarlem Artspace in Wirksworth.

Helen Bovey

Helen worked in the community and voluntary sector and for Peak District National Park Authority before establishing a consultancy company 20 years ago. Today the company specialises in stakeholder engagement, facilitation, evaluation and action research and works with a wide range of clients, including the Environment Agency and Nesta. Community organising and securing community benefit from projects and programmes remain at the heart of Helen’s work and interests.

Gill Geddes

Gill Geddes is Chief Executive of Connex Community Support; she has been on our Board of Trustees since the CVS was formed in 2001.

Gill brings significant experience of the local voluntary and community sector, working with volunteers, vulnerable people and managing a voluntary organisation.

Georgia Litherland

Georgia Litherland is a heritage interpretation consultant, who specialises in enabling and working with community heritage projects. A former academic editor, children’s librarian and yoga instructor, Georgia has volunteered with numerous organisations and projects in Britain and overseas. She is especially interested in the community-building potential of voluntary involvement.

Janet Walker

Janet became a Trustee in December 2019. Her background is in Public Health, as commissioner of drug and alcohol services for two Greater Manchester councils.

Since retiring she has taken on a number of volunteering roles in addition to Trustee. She is the Ambassador for Social Prescribing for Derbyshire, which links in with the Social Prescribers in the CVS team, as well

Phil Stanyer

Phil Stanyer is a business advisor working with a wide range of companies and he specialises in finance and corporate governance. He is the former Chair of East Midlands Chamber of Commerce and prior to this ran several businesses in the region. He is also a Trustee of Tideswell Male Voice Choir.
